January 27, 1809, the day of sacrifice in Gutgashyn district (current Gabala region) was born in a noble family of Nasrallah.The name of Ismail is supposed to put for the Feast of Sacrifice. His mother’s name was Mrs. Bedircahan.
He receivedreligious education in childhood, learned Arabic and Persian languages. After the fall of Azerbaijan under the Tsarist Russian, most of the governor who are the franchise owner kept their previous statuses, and took certain obligations not to revolt in the future. One of these commitments was to send a son of governor to study in Russia.
The last sultan of Gutqashen, with the new status of the head of the district’s Nasrallah sent his youngest son Ismail to St. Petersburg to study. Ismail Bey who successfully complete the training begins military service at the Georgian Caucasus Grenadiers regiment, wins warrant officer (ensign) rank.
He participated in 1826-1828-Russian-Iran, 1828-1829-Russian-Turkish War. Depending on the task, he lives in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Warsaw, in the years of 1832-1836. In 1852 I.Gutqashenli retired and returned to his homeland.
He married to Bikakhanum from Usmiyevs the widow of TarkuShamkhal who was the Governor of Dagestan.
After retired from Russian army his brother-the greatest Naqshbandi of his period-Sufi scholar Sheikh YahyaEfendi meets Gutgashyn. After this I.Gutgasenli went to Mecca, Hajj, in 1852 and 1854, and after returning lived in Gutgashyn and Shamakha.
On 14 August 1861, I.Gutgashenli while walking with his wife Bika from Usmiyevs in Aghdash caravanserai, poisoned and died. He is supposed to be killed by the Armenians at the hands of the government. Brought from Aghdash toGutgashyn (Gabala) was buried in a Sultanbaba cemetery.
In 1985, 86 created house museum and revised the grave monument to Azerbaijani prominent writer, military and public figure I.B Gutgashenli .
